Last 10 February 2021, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) exerted its efforts in disseminating innovative information on the New Plant Breeding Techniques (NBTs) or Plant Breeding Innovations (PBIs) to our local scientists, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders through a webinar.

The 16th NBW 2020 launches with the theme “BIOTEKNOLOHIYA: PAGBANGON AT PAG-ASA TUNGO SA MATATAG NA KOMUNIDAD, KAPALIGIRAN, AT EKONOMIYA”
The National Biotechnology Week (NBW) was created by Presidential Proclamation No. 1414 and is hereby celebrated every third week of November to showcase various milestones, breakthroughs, and contributions of Biotechnology in the field of Agriculture and Food Security, Equitable Health Care Services, Development of Industries and Business Enterprises, Sustainable Environment, and Economic Development. The festivity has been participated by different National Government Agencies (NGAs), Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), State Colleges and Universities (SUCs), and Private Academic Institutions.
In this year’s NBW, the theme “BIOTEKNOLOHIYA: PAGBANGON AT PAG-ASA TUNGO SA MATATAG NA KOMUNIDAD, KAPALIGIRAN, AT EKONOMIYA”, was carved out to display the Filipino’s resilient attitude and adaptability amidst the current pandemic situation.
A series of webinars, technical fora, exhibits, and other events that aim to highlight the contributions of biotechnology to our society will be presented on the week-long event through virtual means.

The 16th NBW will be shown live online from NOVEMBER 23 to 27, 2020.
Strengthening Capacity beyond borders
Transcending beyond borders, the Department of Science and Technology-National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (DOST-NCBP) took part in the Engagement Workshop for the Development of Post 2020 Biosafety Project back to back with the Biosafety Clearing House (BCH) Training Workshop from 4-7 February 2020 at New Delhi, India and the 9th International Plant Tissue Culture and Biotechnology Conference on 8-10 February 2020 at University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
