
Philippines taking lead as one of the organizers in Asia BCH Family (ABF) Side Event in COP-MOP 8
Aside from the Philippines’ participation as a Party to the 8th Conference of Parties serving as Meeting of Parties for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 8) in Cancun, Mexico last December 4-17, it also took the lead as one of the main organizers of the Asia BCH Family’s Side Event entitled “For a Successful Asia BCH Family”.
Philippines participates to the 8th COP-MOP to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety in Mexico
As part of the country’s international obligation to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, it joined the delegates from member countries in the negotiations on the substantial and outstanding issues during the 8th Conference of Parties serving as Meeting of Parties (COP-MOP 8) in Cancun, Mexico from 4 to 17 December 2016. With participants from the Departments of Science and Technology; Environment and Natural Resources; and Health; the Philippines was able to put forward the Philippines’ position on various areas concerning the safe transfer and responsible use of GMOs to international discussion.

Second Global Round Table Discussion on Public Awareness, Access to Information and Public Participation regarding GMOs in Switzerland
One of NCBP's aims this year is to effectively engage and inform the public about modern biotechnology and biosafety regulations. This goal was further realized when the Philippines, through Ms. Julieta Fe L. Estacio, was invited to present the Philippine experience in the regulation of GMOs in the second Global Round table on public awareness, access to information and public participation regarding GMOs at the Palais des Nations (Salle V) in Geneva, Switzerland last 15 to 17 December.
NCBP and USDA features Forum on Genome Editing Technologies
Last November 11, the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) in partnership with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) conducted a Forum on the Development, Adoption, and Regulation of Gene Transfer Systems and other New and Emerging Technologies in Plant Breeding in Makati City.
